The green iguana is a non-native, invasive species that has exploded across South Florida, and it causes real, expensive damage. Their extensive burrows undermine seawalls, foundations, sidewalks, and canal banks; they strip ornamental plants, orchids, and flowers; and their droppings foul pools, docks, patios, and lanais — droppings that can also carry salmonella. Because our climate suits them perfectly and they reproduce quickly, a couple of iguanas can become a persistent property problem in a single season.
